Who owns and manages the Centre?

As a business unit of the Wellington City Council; the Wellington Convention Centre manages three of the city's key venues - the Michael Fowler Centre, Wellington Town Hall and the TSB Bank Arena on the Councils behalf.

How do I get to the Wellington Convention Centre?

The Wellington Convention Centre comprises of three venues - Michael Fowler Centre, Wellington Town Hall and the TSB Bank Arena. The Michael Fowler Centre and Town Hall are adjacent to each other and entrance to the buildings is located at 111 Wakefield Street. The TSB Bank Arena is located on Queens Wharf Square off Jervois Quay.

What are the opening hours for the Centre?

  • The main office, located in the Michael Fowler Centre, is open from 8.30am to 5.30pm - Monday to Friday.
  • Reception at the TSB Bank Arena and Michael Fowler Centre are open from 8am to 6pm

Additional opening hours are dependent on the events taking place in the venues.

Is there a wheelchair access at the venues?

Yes. All our venues are wheelchair accessible. Disabled car parking is also available.

Is there an Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) at the venues?

Yes. An ATM is directly located outside all our venues.

Can you recommend somewhere nearby to dine?

Wellington is renowned for its fabulous restaurant and cafe culture. With its many dining options located in the central city area, there is something for every taste. Our staff are happy to recommend dining options (and there are many to choose from) - please just ask us.

I am a student and I require information on the Centre, can you help me with my research?

Due to the high volume of requests we receive from students for information, we cannot reply to each request individually but would recommend that you research the website in detail as it contains a significant amount of information which hopefully will assist you in your studies.

How can I book an event?

Booking an event with us is easy. We have a dedicated team who are happy to answer any of your queries regarding holding an event at our venues. How can I find out what events are happening at the venues?

Where can I purchase tickets for events?

Tickets for our events in our venues can be purchased through Ticketek offices nationally and online at ticketek.co.nz. There is a Ticketek box office located opposite the entrance to the Michael Fowler Centre on Wakefield Street, and also inside the main foyer of the TSB Bank Arena, where you can purchase tickets direct.
 

Accommodation

Where can I stay in Wellington?

The Wellington Convention Centre is surrounded by great accommodation providers that provide you with a diverse range of options. And because we are located in the heart of Wellington's central business district, all hotels are only a short walk from our venues. A list of hotels can be found in our "Destination Wellington" section.

Which hotels are closest to the Wellington Convention Centre?

  • The 4 1/2 star Duxton Hotel is located directly opposite the Michael Fowler Centre, and the 3 star West Plaza Hotel is across the road from the Wellington Town Hall. Both hotels are located on Wakefield Street.
  • The 5 star Intercontinental hotel is located adjacent to the TSB Bank Arena across busy Jervois Quay

Car parking

Where is the nearest car park to the TSB Bank Arena and how much does it cost?

At the TSB Bank Arena, public and exhibitor parking facilities are available in the Wilsons car park beneath the venue.

standard - before 9.30am Must depart by 7pm $16 per day
Casual week day rate Ranges from $4 per 1/2 hour to max. charge $35 per day
Evening week day rate (6pm to midnight) 1 hour $4
Evening week day rate (6pm to midnight) 1-3 hour $8
Evening week day rate (6pm to midnight) 3+ hour $10

Where is the nearest car park to the Michael Fowler Centre and Town Hall, and how much does it cost?

Parking for approximately 88 car parks with 3 disability spaces is available at the Michael Fowler Centre car park.

Opening Hours - MFC Carpark Charge
Monday - Friday (max. 2 hours) from 6am-6pm $4 per hour
Monday - Friday from 6pm - midnight $2 per hour
Saturday 8am - 6pm (max. 2 hours) No charge
Saturday from 6pm & all day Sunday No charge

Alternative car parks are available at the Tournament Car Park on Wakefield Street (opposite the Michael Fowler Centre).

Early bird week day rate (before 10am) $12 per day
Casual week day rate (after 10am) $3 per hour, max. charge $18 per day
Evening week day rate (6pm - 6am) $2 per hour, max. charge $6
Early bird weekend rate (before 10am) $3 per day
Casual weekend rate (after 10am) $2 per hour, max. charge $6

For events longer than one day in duration, special rates can be arranged at Tournament by calling 04 473 3432. There are approximately 748 car parks available.

The above car parking options are also suitable for visitors to the Wellington Town Hall.
 

Getting around

What are the public transport options in Wellington?

Wellington has a great public transport structure with services running regularly in the central business district at all times of the day. And because it's a compact city, you won't need to travel far - making it a cost effective city to explore. Below are the transport options available:

By Train

Wellington Train Station is located on Bunny Street, from the station it is a 5 minute walk to the TSB Bank Arena or a 10 minute walk to the Michael Fowler Centre and Wellington Town Hall. Wellington Railway Station is the southern terminus of New Zealand's North Island Main Trunk railway, Wairarapa Line and Johnsonville Line. By Bus

Wellington has an extensive network of bus routes. The nearest stop to the Michael Fowler Centre and Town Hall buildings is situated on Cuba Street. A short walk from any Lambton Quay bus stop will take you to the TSB Bank Arena. The Stagecoach Flyer bus will take you to between the airport and downtown Wellington and north through to Hutt Valley. You will never have to wait long for a bus in Wellington. By Taxi

Taxis are reasonably priced and plentiful in Wellington. A dedicated taxi rank is located outside all venues, and drivers are familiar with all our venues, the local hotels and city attractions. Our preferred taxi company is Corporate Cabs.
